Documentary units and individuals in general need to tweet more. According to my research, documentary units tweet on average about 5 times per day, while individuals tweet on average about 18 times per day.
Dan Zarrella, a self-proclaimed social media scientist who has studied Twitter trends in depth, found in his research released during the summer that the best tweeting frequency is 1 to 4 tweets per hour. To Zarella, this frequency, based on user click-through-rates, provides the most user interaction.
Given this range, 1 tweet per a 9 hour work day would be 9 tweets per day, while four tweets during a 9 hour work day would be 36 tweets per day. This range offers much room to play, but I believe that the perfect range or the sweet spot would be somewhere in between, around 18 and 27 posts per day, with the most important tweets at noon and 5 p.m. when RTs are highest.
While this may seem like a lot of posts at first, it is really not. And this is because this range also includes RT, replies, and questions in addition to the usual news updates.
